Kangpokpi, July 16 2023:
Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi declared imposition of 72-hour total shutdown along the National Highway-2 from July 16 midnight.
The decision to impose the shutdown was adopted in an emergency meeting of the Committee held at Gamgiphai on Sunday.
Announcing the decision, CoTU general secretary Lamminlun Singsit said the shutdown is called to denounce continuous attacks on Kuki-Zo people.
He said that unruly mobs torched three trucks of M/S Misao Gas Service at Sekmai on Saturday while one Kuki-Zo volunteer identified as Jangkholun Haokip, 34 son of Jangkhai Haokip of Thangbuh village was killed in attack by Meetei militia at about 10am Sunday.
While vehemently condemning the continuous attack, torching and killing of the Kuki-Zo people, the CoTU decided to impose a total shutdown in the entire Kangpokpi district including blockade of the National Highway-2, he added.
