Truck driver injured in stone pelting

Imphal, July 16 2023:
A driver got injured while around 10 trucks suffered partial damage as suspected Kuki agitators pelted stones on them at Seijang and Sinam villages along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) road.
The incident occurred when around 50 loaded trucks were coming towards Imphal from Noney on Saturday at about 11 pm.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Road Transport and Motor Workers Union, known as Drivers Union, demanded action against escort commander and Noney police for allowing the trucks to move towards Imphal without ROP.
The union also warned of launching steering off stir if no action is taken against police officers concerned.
According to Drivers Union general secretary M Anil Meetei, stone pelting incident at Seijang and Sinam villages proved that security forces are unable to control NH-37 road.
Questioning as to why escort commander and Noney police allowed the trucks to leave Noney in the middle of the night and without ROP, Anil said government must take action against the police officers concerned or else drivers would cease service.
Addressing media persons at union's office at MG Avenue Sunday, Anil said at least 10 trucks were partially damaged in the stone pelting incident while a driver named Thangjam Sushilkumar from Heibongpokpi got injured.
He also said that the union visited the hospital where Sushilkumar js undergoing treatment and provided financial assistance.
Regarding condition of NH-37 road, Anil said the people of Manipur and government remember the road only when the state faces crisis like the present one.
