'Myanmarese staying on rent at CCpur'

Imphal, August 30 2023: DG of Manipur police Rajiv Singh, quoting a July 29 report from the SP of Churachandpur, today submitted before a division bench of the High Court of Manipur that 9 Myanmar Nationals who had been discharged from hospital are residing at rented accommodation in Churachandpur.

The 9 Myanmar Nationals were among the 11 Myanmarese earlier admitted to hospital with bullet and shrapnel injuries in the month of June, said the DG in his affidavit.

Altogether 9 Forest Beat offices were burnt down in Churachandpur district during the Tribal Solidarity March on May 3, said the affidavit submitted by the DG and added that 11 Myanmar Nationals were reported to have come to Churachandpur district for medical treatment in the month of June as per the report from SP Churachandpur on July 10 .

The DG further submitted that 9 Myanmar Nationals were found discharged from hospital and were residing in rented accommodation in Churachandpur district headquarters as per another report received from SP Churachandpur on July 12 .

The SP report also stated that neither the office of SP nor OC Churachandpur received any communication earlier from the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Churachandpur about the admission of Myanmar Nationals to the hospital with bullet and explosive injuries, the DGP said in his affidavit.

The DGP further submitted that adequate security arrangements have been taken up for controlling the ongoing clashes; area domination and joint combing operation are continuously done by the Army, Assam Rifles, other Central Armed Paramilitary Forces and State police for dismantling the bunkers of both communities at the fringe areas of Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Kakching districts.

The submission of the DG came as part of the counter affidavit filed by the State Government to the PIL filed by the International Meiteis' Forum.

Thje PIL was filed seeking intervention to stop burial at the contested site and the contempt case (case number 78 of 2023) admitted on August 9 for failing to maintain status quo as directed in an interim order issued on August 3 .
