RIMS staffs protest absence of Director

RIMS staffs staged a sit in protest inside the institute's campus today, demanding the appointment of a Director at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons, TAMOA (Teachers & Medical Officer Association) president Dr Akoijam Bhogen said that it is normal for the institution to get paralysed due to the lack of a Director adding that all of the college works and projects are on stand still as there has not been a Director nor a Director in charge since March 1 .
"If a hospital or institute gets paralysed, then automatically there is bound to be inconveniences while tending to patients", he added.
Questioning if the authorities are neglecting the Central institute in the State, Dr Akoijma Bhogen said that running the institute without any Director is an insult to the doctors as well as the people of Manipur.
Expressing disappointment at the lack of positive response from the authority concerned till date, he pointed out that appointing a new Director is not a complicated process and according to RIMS by law, the senior most Professor of the institute is eligible for the post.
RIMS Nurses Association president Tampha said, "It is unfortunate that the institute which produces many bright medical students and is often regarded as one of the premiere institutes, has been operating without a Director" .
She said that they had already sent numerous requests to the authority concerned to appoint a new Director adding that Non Teaching Employee Welfare Association (NTEWA), RIMS Nurses Association and TAMOA held an emergency meeting yesterday and collectively decided to stage the sit in protest after the authorities failed to give any response.
"The OPD and Casualty ward were closed from 10 am to 2 pm today due to the protest.
The OT will be shut down from tomorrow although Gynae department will still be open", she added.
Tampha further said that if a new Director is not appointed by March 25, all the departments of the institute would be shut down from the next day.
She said, "Ignoring such an esteemed institute is akin to insulting the people of the State.
"The associations understand the inconveniences caused to the public who come for treatment but this has to be done", she added.
