ZU seeks CM's intervention in neglected Tamenglong

Imphal, January 13, 2011: Highlighting various grievances of Tamenglong district, the Zeliangrong Union (ZU) has sought immediate intervention of the Chief Minister.

In a representation addressed to the Chief Minister, the ZU highlighted that Tamenglong College has been suffering from lack of necessary infrastructure and administrative failures.

The ZU urged the Chief Minister to provide necessary infrastructure and also depute adequate number of both teaching and non-teaching staff.

The district jail for which construction started in 1989-90 is yet to be completed.

In the meantime, the completed portion of the building is only decaying with the GI sheets already dismantled and removed by some miscreants due to failure of the Government to keep vigil over its property.

The ZU sought the Chief Minister's intervention to complete the construction work and also to deploy required security personnel so that the jail can start functioning.

Although the 132 KV power sub-station built at Rengpang has been completed, it is still awaiting inauguration.

The Zeliangrong body urged the Chief Minister to commission the power sub-station at the earliest.

Highlighting that cracks have started appearing at the Tamenglong mini-secretariat building as well as the fencing walls, though they were constructed newly, the ZU sought the intervention of the Chief Minister so that the damaged portions are re-constructed before formal inauguration of the building.

Even though Tamenglong-Khongshang road has been handed over to BRO/BRTF, there is no sign of initiating any road repairing/development work till date.

The Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong road has been in limbo since 1998 and the road has deteriorated to a pathetic condition over the years without any sign of maintenance or repairing.

Although due tender process has been completed and subsequently three contractors have been selected for development of Kangpokpi-Tamei-Tamenglong road, no repairing/development work has been initiated till date.

Highlighting all these woes, the ZU sought immediate intervention of the Chief Minister to issue strict instruction to the work agencies concerned for smooth and timely execution of the road development works.

The ZU further lamented that no progress could be observed in the construction of suspension/bailey bridges over Barak river between Dikiuram and New Katang and the other one between Tamenglong and Namtiram.

It also highlighted the urgent need for repairing and improvement of ring roads in and around Tamenglong district headquarters.
