IGNTU stir suspended

The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) has suspended its stir after coming to a partial agreement with the authority concerned in connection with the demands laid down by University's students regarding construction of hostels and staff quarters, appointment of permanent staff and engagement of adequate non teaching staff as per UGC norms .
A press release issued today by the president of the body and the president of The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM), stated that representatives of ATSUM, KSO-GHQs and ANSAM took part in a meeting organised at Classic Grande today, after an assurance letter was received by IGNTU-RCM from Vice Chancellor Professor TV Kattimani to solve all issues at the earliest and for development of the regional campus.
The letter also pointed out that the VC would visit the campus by September and an Executive Council meeting would be held at the same time.
It also assured arrangement of temporary hostel accommodations and advertisements for recruitment of permanent faculties .
Taking into considerations the academic life of the students and based on the assurance, the student body has decided to suspend its stir, it added .
It, however, warned intense agitation if the authority concerned fails to deliver on its promises within one month.
