Imphal, October 05 2026:
5 CSOs' series of protest demonstrations, demanding updation of NRC with 1951 base-year, repeal of AFSPA and a resolution to the ongoing conflict, continued at Wangjing Khunou today.
The sit-in demonstration was organised by the Kakching District United Clubs Organisation (KADUCO), Khunnai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup 2 (KHUKAMPAL 2) and Young Star Social Club (YSSC) .
Locals of Pangal Tabi, Komsen, Kurnungching, Mahou Tera, Nongangching, Sekmaijin and Tokpaching took part in the protest.
KADUCO president H Kishorjit, KHUKAMPAL 2 secretary RK Lukshmi, AMUCO president S Sanjoy, AMUCO secretary (org) Laishram Krishnachandra and COHR chairman Phulindro Konsam spoke during the demonstration.
Addressing the protesters, AMUCO secretary (org) Laishram Krishnachandra asserted that indigenous communities of the State at present are facing terrorism being carried out by militants.
Even when innocent citizens, including women and children have been killed, the Government of India has failed to crack down on the militants, he said.
He alleged that the Government of India's policies has created 'division' among the communities, and accused it of failing to curb illegal immigration which has created demographic imbalance in the State.
To curb violence and bring peace, the Government must crackdown on the militants and update the NRC before census operations, he added.
Further, people should reject the recently concluded "flawed" SIR (Special Intensive Revision) of electoral rolls, he said.
The AMUCO leader also called for withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 .
The 5 CSOs include All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) .
