Imphal, October 05 2026:
The United Peoples' Front (UPF), Manipur has urged the State Government to withdraw its decision to organise the Sangai Festival.
In a statement issued by its secretary general Soibam Anil Meetei, the Front said that the Government's efforts to promote tourism in Manipur are a good initiative, but the prevailing situation in the State is not conducive to hosting such a festival.
Tens of thousands of people are still languishing in relief camps, while inter-district movement of people across the State remains restricted, it said.
Apart from this, Meitei and Naga people are unable to travel freely along the National Highways, while the Naga-Kuki conflict continues unabated, the Front said, urging the Government to cancel preparations for holding the Sangai Festival.
The Front also appealed to the people not to set up or operate stalls if the Government goes ahead with organising the festival.
Further, the UPF urged the Government to organise the festival only after normalcy is restored in Manipur.
