Imphal, October 05 2026: Ex-Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren and three other MLAs have pledged full support to the ongoing people's movement for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before census.

Keeping up the momentum of the ongoing MLAs' signature campaign, volunteers of JFD Women Wing today visited ex-Chief Minister N Biren (MLA, Heingang AC), MLA Dinganglung Gangmei (Nungba AC), Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband AC) and RK Imo (Sagolband AC) .

The JFD Women's Wing signature campaign is basically aimed at ascertaining the MLAs' positions on the public demand for updating the NRC with 1951 as the base year before census.

A five-point memorandum affixed with a written declaration in support of the mass movement to update the NRC with 1951 as the base year before census was also submitted to the MLAs.

The four MLAs not only expressed their unstinted support to the people's movement but also appended their signatures on the annexure (written declaration) .
