Unity Summit seeks to face challenges unitedly

In a significant effort to address and find sustainable solutions to the challenges Manipur is facing, a Meitei Unity Summit was convened on November 25 at the Centre for Collaborative Education, Oshawa, Ontario by the Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) and the Association of Meiteis in the Americas (AMA) .
The summit started with all the attendees pledging their allegiance to the Salai Taret Phiral (flag) and homage to martyrs.
The summit brought together eminent personalities and key speakers including JNU Associate Professor Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Commissioner of Income Tax Naorem Banita Devi, Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Secretary Anil Haorokcham and Dr Rajshree Keisam among others engaging in a constructive dialogue with an aim to foster a sense of unity, said a statement issued by Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) .
The Unity Summit aimed to create a platform for open discussions, exchange of ideas, and the exploration of common ground to promote harmony, rehabilitation through economic growth and development in the region.
The summit reiterated Meiteis' demand for ST status, implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC), and emphasized the role of Meitei diaspora in mitigating the ongoing internecine conflict, said MAC.
The summit provided a space for inclusive dialogue, allowing participants from different parts of the world including USA, Europe, Singapore, South Korea, Dubai, India etc to share their perspectives.
Participants engaged in discussions focused on finding collaborative and inclusive solutions to address the root causes of issues affecting Manipur.
They expressed a collective commitment to promoting peace and stability in Manipur.
The summit underscored the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means and fostering an environment conducive to social and economic development.
To ensure the outcomes of the Unity Summit translate into tangible results, a framework for follow-up actions was discussed and agreed upon.
This includes the establishment of working groups, continued dialogue platforms, and ongoing engagement with relevant stakeholders, said MAC.
