Imphal, November 29 2023:
Child adoption without adhering to the mandated norms might create problems for adoptive parents in future, cautioned Social Welfare director Ng Uttam and appealed to all concerned to adopt child in strict compliance with the legal procedures.
Ng Uttam made this appeal during the Adoptive Parents and Prospective Adoptive Parents Meet-2023 held on the theme 'Adoption of older children' at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal, North AOC, here, on Tuesday.
As chief guest of the event, the director remarked that though there are many legal formalities to be followed while adopting a child, some parents were found illegally adopting child even after they were told to follow rules and guidelines.
He said that adopting a child in illegal manner will be dangerous for adoptive parents in future and accordingly it is advisable to adopt child after completing necessary legal formalities.
According to Ng Uttam, anyone interested in adopting child could register at State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) so that they could get the child at the earliest and anyone who does not want to raise child anymore could contact SARA offices rather than abandoning the child.
The meet was also attended by Central Adoptions Resource Authority (CARA) integrated finance officer Ram Charan, ICDS (social welfare) joint director Bantee Konthoujam and joint director (social welfare) Jiteswar Keisham.
