Poppy destruction drive continues in Ukhrul
NSCN bans poppy cultivation in Tkl villages

Even as security forces and Forest personnel destroyed more than 55 acres of poppy plantation in Ukhrul today, NSCN Wung Tangkhul Region has declared a ban on cultivation of poppy in Tangkhul villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
The more than 55 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed at two hill ranges of Sihai and Nungbi Khullen village.
According to a report from Ningshem Vashum, Superintendent of Police of Ukhrul, around 90 security personnel were deployed to destroy the poppy plantations on the hill ranges.
Police, 6 MR and Forest Department personnel were involved in the poppy destruction drive.

The security personnel dismantled and burnt around 35 makeshift huts constructed by poppy cultivators.
The security forces also sprayed weedicides to kill poppy nurseries.
Security forces have so far destroyed over 157 acres of poppy plantation in Ukhrul.
No poppy cultivators were found on the site.
A regular case has been registered at Kasom Khullen police station against the unknown poppy cultivators, said the police.
Meanwhile, the NSCN, WTR, Ukhrul has banned cultivation/plantation of poppy in Tangkhul villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong district.
An order issued by Sirius Konghar, secretary of WTR, GPRN said poppy is strictly banned/prohibited with immediate effect, and non compliance of the ban order shall be treated as wilful defiance which will necessitate stern action.
