Ukhrul, November 29 2023:
Ukhrul District Taxi Welfare Association (UDTWA) has clarified regarding the so-called amalgamation of two taxi associations reported in certain sections of the media, stating that it was rather all taxi operators in Ukhrul town merging to the registered body UDTWA which is still the parent body.
Briefing the media on the matter at its Phungreitang UDTWA office, president CH Khathing said that no amalgamation had happened and that UDTWA remains the parent body of the taxi operators in Ukhrul town.
He said that UDTWA is a registered taxi association and that amalgamation of UDTWA and other unregistered bodies cannot happen as per the official procedures.
"There has been no amalgamation of UDTWA with any other taxi bodies, but rather all taxi operators in Ukhrul town are merging with UDTWA,'' he reiterated, adding that the recent merger agreement was a move to bring together all town taxi operators for a unified foothold in the transport service in the town.
Accordingly, a statutory body named UDTWA-Local Taxi was recently constituted with 11 executive committee members to oversee the service in the town under the parent body, he said.
Attending the press briefing, UDTWA vice president Graceson Varu said that the Deputy Registrar of Societies, Ukhrul had already cancelled the amalgamation certificate through an order back in 2016 on the ground that a registered body and unregistered body could not amalgamate
as per the norms.
