Breast Cancer awareness month observed

Along with screening for breast cancer, a programme related to Breast Cancer Awareness month was jointly conducted by Community Health Centre, Wangoi NCD Cell and JNIMS surgery department under the aegis of District Health Society, Imphal West at Imphal College, here, on Thursday.
The programme held under the theme "Keeping her in the picture", was attended by Wangoi CHC medical officer Dr Ningthoujam Sushila Devi, JNIMS surgery department associate professor Dr Achom Ranjita Devi, Wangoi CHC NCD Cell MO in-charge Dr Khuraijam Anupama and Imphal College Mathematics Department professor Dr A Sumati as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sushila explained that the programme has been conducted as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month to create awareness on Breast Cancer among the teachers and students of Imphal College.
Earlier cervical cancer was considered to be the most common disease among women but now breast cancer has replaced cervical cancer.
The programme has also been conducted to enable the women to get themselves check timely for any symptoms of breast cancer as has been mandated under the National Programme for Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.
A one-day awareness programme on breast cancer was also conducted as part of the Awareness Month at S Kula Women's College, Nambol where RIMS senior psychiatrist cum radiation safety officer Dr B Arunkumar Sharma, RIMS radiation oncologists Dr Angom Ronibala Devi and Dr Ningthoujam Dinita Qevi spoke on relevant topics.
