Assam Rifles seizes illicit timber in Chandel

Imphal, January 22 2024: Assam Rifles intercepted and recovered two truckloads of illicit timber at Wangparal in Chandel district on Sunday.

A release issued by PRO IGAR (S) informed that five individuals transporting timber in trucks (MN 04 5674 and MN 04 8988) were checked at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post established by Assam Rifles at around 12.30 pm.

The intercepted vehicles were enroute from Liwa Khullen, Chandel to Wagabai, Kakching.

Thorough examination at the check post revealed the illicit nature of the cargo, resulting in the confiscation of two truckloads of suspected timber.

The individuals, along with the confiscated timber and vehicles, were handed over to District Forest Officer (DFO) Chandel range officer for further necessary legal action, it informed, while adding that the estimated value of the timber is yet to be ascertained.
