Blast rips hardware store, 8 hurt

Imphal, February 27 2011:
Eight people including two Traffic Control personnel have been injured in a grenade explosion at an iron and steel store at Hatta in Imphal East district today.
According to information culled from the spot, the hand grenade was hurled by some unidentified persons who came in a car at about 12.40 pm.
One Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Control Police, Imphal East and another personnel who were on duty in connection with the return journey of Chief Minister O Ibobi from Maphou sustained injuries in the explosion.
The two personnel were coming to Hatta-Minuthong crossing in a Maruti Gypsy together with three other personnel when the hand grenade exploded suddenly.
The injured personnel have been identified as OC of TCP Imphal East N Angouton (52) s/o late Kulla of Nambol Phoijing Awang Leikai and Leihaothabam Iboyaima (38) s/o Jibon of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai.
Some people were also playing cards before the iron and steel store when the grenade exploded.

The other individuals who sustained injuries in the explosion are proprietor of the store Ulli Ali (50) from Bihar but staying at Thangal Bazar, salesman Md Khamba (32) s/o Janab Ali of Borayangbi, rickshaw puller Md Thoiba (29) s/o late Jamaludin of Lalpani, Cachar, Jamir Khan (22) s/o Ismail of Mana Ingkhol, Asraf Ali (28) s/o Abdul from Uttar Pradesh but staying at Hatta and Samsurudin (45) s/o Amirudin of Thangal Bazar.
Out of them, conditions of Md Khamba and Iboyaima are reported to be critical.
Md Khamba was hit shrapnels in different parts of the body as Iboyaima was hit splinters on the head.
Ulli and Samsurudin have been shifted to RIMS while the other victims are undergoing treatment at JNIMS.
Porompat Police have registered a case and launched investigation into the bomb blast incident.
Till the time of filing this report, no UG group has claimed responsibility for the grenade attack.
