Imphal, February 27 2011: Setting a new deadline of completing the decades old Maphou Dam by December this year, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has stated that Rs 30 crores would be earmarked in the next budget for taking up a water supply project which would used Maphou Dam water as its source.

Speaking to media persons at the dam site during an inspection visit of the construction work along with Irrigation and Flood Control Minister N Biren today, Ibobi said that the SPF Government has been closely monitoring progress of the dam construction work.

Construction of spillway has been completed by 75 per cent as the earth dam component is almost 80 per cent complete.

Maximum efforts are being put in to complete the earth dam before arrival of the rainy season with a view to commission the whole dam by December this year, Ibobi stated.

Earlier, it was planned to complete the project by March next year.

Elaborating that the project has three components� irrigation, water supply and power, the Chief Minister informed that preparation of a detailed project report for a water supply project of estimated cost Rs 600 crores.
