Strikes and bandhs are set to make a come back as the Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) and Churachandpur District Students Union (CDSU) have announced their intention to hold separate agitations beginning October 18, reports our correspondent.
A press statement issues by Haolal, general secretary KSO, CCpur said it has decided to launch a 48 hour general strike from 6 pm of Wednesday due to the 'unprecedented delay of laying foundation stone and construction work of District Jt.
Administration Building at the District Hqs as a first stage of agitation.' All institutions and establishments other than the media and medical will be included within the purview of the bandh.
It may be mentioned that KSO has been demanding the construction of the administrative building within the vicinity of Tuibuang, even as rumours have been doing the round that the Government has decided otherway due to the prevailing lawlessness within the said locality.
CDSU in a separate memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister today has warned of intense agitation after October 19 if the Government fails to fulfill the assurance of filling all the adequate staff at the two Government colleges in the district.
Detailing how the Government has reneged on the agreement it signed earler as well as the verbal assurances of Education Minister L Nandakumar on September 19, CDSU alleged that of the 2 lecturers and 10 part-time lecturers transferred to the district, only two had actually joined their work.
Added to this, the Government has terminated all the part-time lecturers completely crushing the college set-up, it said.
Claiming that it 'will brook no compromise when it comes to the interest of the students of the district' the CDSU warned that it will be constrained to resort to whatever means in order to fight for rights of the students.
