Drivers' Day

The 37th Driver's Day was observed today at THAU Ground, Thangmeiband, by paying tributes to deceased drivers and presenting simple gifts to over 1,500 working drivers and internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge at the THAU Community Hall.
Addressing the programme organised by the Joint Coordinating Committee for the 37th Drivers' Day, Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai stated that the Government is considering the establishment of a separate fund and an insurance policy for the welfare of drivers.
He emphasized that drivers are the backbone of the transport system and play a crucial role in improving the State's economy.
Saying that drivers need to continuously update their knowledge of traffic rules and undergo regular training, he added that training for Manipur State Transport drivers has already begun, and the Government is exploring the possibility of allowing other drivers to join the training.
He also said that drivers must stay fit and for their welfare every stakeholder must work together.
Saying that good infrastructure is essential to prevent road mishaps, he appealed to all agencies and contractors working on National Highways to complete the highway projects as soon as possible.
People need to acknowledge the important role drivers play in Manipur, Anurag said.
Traffic SP Chiphang Cecelia Sopemla commended the drivers, stating that they are the ones who bring essential supplies to the State despite the challenges on the highways.
She urged drivers to obey traffic rules and contact the traffic police if they encounter any issues related to traffic.
Transport Director Kh Diana, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union general secretary Maimom Anil, legal advisor Mayengbam Kameshwor and Transporters and Driver's Council vice president Kh Ibotombi also attended the programme among others.
