Imphal, June 04 2023:
Aftermath of Kuki militants resorting to indis-criminate firing at Tangjeng village in Bishnupur district, the denizens fled from their homes to take refuge at safer location while a combined team of Bishnupur district and special commando units are stationed at Pombikhok and Tangjeng villages.
Villagers of Tangjeng, Napat and Pombikhok refused rein-forcement of Assam Rifles (AR) in their areas saying that they don't trust the AR.
Instead, the villagers are demanding setting up permanent post of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) in addition to deployment of the state's forces to protect them from Kuki militants, who attacked Pombikhok and Napat villages and also burnt down several houses on the intervening night of May 27 and 28 forcing the local to abandon their villages and take shelter at Chandonpok-pi, Pombikhok, Wangoo and Borayangbi villages.
Condemning the attack on Tangjeng and Napat villages by Kuki militants, Pombikhok Meira Paibi secretary Thiyam Jamini pointed out since out-break of the communal vio-lence on May 3, village youths armed themselves with sling-shots and few with licensed firearms to prevent unwanted incidents.
