Combined team seizes, disposes "suspicious packets"

Jiribam, June 04 2023: A combined team of Jiribam Police, Tamenglong Police, CRPF, Assam Rifles and 5 MR comprising roughly 250 security personnel seized three items "suspected to be bombs" during a search operation at Phaitol area under Jiribam district today and safely disposed of the "suspicious packets" .

This information was shared by Jiribam SP Maharambam Pradip, IPS during a press conference conducted today.

He stated that around 12:15 am during the intervening night of June 3 and 4, police personnel on duty at Samupunbi informed the control room that they heard sounds of gunfire.

The police commandos were instructed not to return fire at this juncture and another commando team was dispatched in case of eruption of any unwanted situations.

The aforementioned combined team thus launched a search operation at 9 am today at Gularthol and Phaitol.

At Gularthol, the team dismantled a 'sand-bag bunker'.

Following this, during the search operation at Phaitol, the combined team dismantled three bunkers and seized the aforementioned packets "suspected to be bombs" .

The suspicious items were seized after following due procedure by Tousem OC Martha Kamei.

The items were subsequently disposed of safely.

The residents of Phaitol expressed their wholehearted support to the search operation conducted by the combined team.
