Angry mob of Imphal East district burnt to ashes the house of a former Minister's younger brother located at Nongpok Ingkhol last midnight.
According to a source, the house of former Minister Ngamthang Haokip at Nongpok Ingkhol along the road leading to New Checkon from Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong, was set ablaze by an angry mob after the news of burning down of around 200 houses at Serou along with local MLA K Ranjit's house by well armed Kuki militants spread.
The irate mob damaged one car parked inside the compound and later set on fire the building, as per the source.
The fire spread and also gutted a neighbouring house belonging to one Thoudam Bikram.
A team of Imphal East district police and Manipur Fire service team rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
In another incident unknown persons reportedly burnt down several houses inside Langol Housing Complex near F-Sector at around 10.30 pm today.
Two houses have been burnt.
The persons responsible and the reason for the arson could not be ascertained.
Fortunately, fire services rushed to the spot and put out the fire, preventing the fire from spreading to other residences and structures nearby.
