Imphal, September 26 2024:
The JAC formed in connection with the deaths of the mother-daughter duo (Ningombam ningol Adhikarimayum ongbi Basanti and her four-year old daughter Lanchenbi), who were found dead on bed on September 23, continued with the sit-in protest at Haoreibi Kangjeibung Mapal community hall on Thursday, demanding that the post mortem report be made available before claiming the bodies.
During the sit-in, the protestors held placards inscribed with the slogans, "Find the truth behind the deaths of the mother and daughter", "We want justice for Basanti and Lanchenbi", "Foul play in mother-daughter duo's death" .
Speaking on the sidelines, JAC convenor Oinam Chaoba contended that non-disclosure of report of the post-mortem examination conducted at RIMS is hindering unravelling of circumstances leading to the suspicious deaths.
The convenor reiterated that bodies of the mother and daughter will not be claimed until the report is made available.
Mentioning that a memorandum regarding the deaths had been submitted by the JAC to the chief minister in the presence of Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam; Chaoba continued that Wangoi police had registered a UD case and launched an investigation, including recording the statements of family members, neighbours and others.
However, cause of death remains unclear till date, the convenor said.
