Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), organised wreath laying ceremonies on August 16 and 17, paying tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.
The first ceremony, held on August 16, commemorated the indomitable spirit of rifleman/GD late Krishna Kumar Singh of 4 Assam Rifles.
On August 16, 1993, a team from Maokot Post embarked on a mission to Chadong Khunou village based on specific intelligence regarding presence of insurgents.
Faced with fierce automatic weapon fire upon their approach, rifleman late Krishna Kumar Singh responded with courage, engaging in a prolonged firefight.
Despite sustaining grave injuries on his stomach, his determination and unwavering resolve compelled the insurgents to retreat.
His gallantry led to the recovery of five weapons, ammunition, and the apprehension of an insurgent.
For his.
extraordinary actions, he was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
The second ceremony, held on August 17, was a tribute to the valiant sacrifices of multiple soldiers from 4 Assam Rifles.
On August 17, 1994, a patrol party consisting of three JCOs and 41 ORs fell into an insurgent ambush while carrying out a search operation along Chassad Gamnom Road.
During the fierce firefight, rifleman/GD late Ananta Sharma, rifleman/GD late Ram Surat Pal, rifleman/ORL late Santosh Kumar, and rifleman/GD late Shaitya Ram Rabha sustained grievous gunshot wounds and succumbed to their injuries.
