Fresh landslide hits Noney

A fresh landslide has struck Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH 37) which has been cut off by landslides since yesterday.
Nonetheless, hectic efforts are on to clear the mounds of earth and mud, and re-open the highway.
The highway is likely to be re-connected by Friday.
Landslide struck the highway at a place in between Awangkhul and Irang, around 91.85 Kms away from Imphal at around 4 pm yesterday, sources informed.
Following heavy rainfall during the last couple of days, a series of landslides struck the highway at six places between Awangkhul and Khongsang, starting from Tuesday morning.
Counting yesterday's landslide, the highway is now blocked by as many as seven landslides, said the sources.
Soon after the landslides, NHIDCL pressed its machinery and manpower to remove earth and other debris piled up on the highway.
Two heavy machinery engaged in clearing the highway got buried under mounds of earth yesterday but there was no report of any casualty.
So far, the landslides have been cleared at four places while at one place, the highway is almost fit for movement of vehicles on a single lane.
Mounds of earth and debris blocking the highway at other landslides affected areas are being removed at a hectic pace, added the sources.
