Imphal, October 26 2023:
The Union of Treatment and Rehabilitation of Users for Social Transformation Centres (U-TRUST), a body of privately run drug-rehabilitation centres, has expressed resentment over the arrest warrant issued against Meitei Leepun chief M Pramotchand by the Churachandpur CJM and instructing the Manipur police to bring him to Churachandpur.
In a statement, U-TRUST said that M Pramotchand has been contributing his mite to save the youth of the state from the harmful effects of drugs and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and played an important role in finalising the guidelines of private rehabilitation centres which have been included in the state gazette.
Moreover, it is well known that since the last few years, he has been campaigning to unite the Meiteis settling in different parts of the globe and preserve, protect and promote the culture and tradition of Manipur along with saving the identity of the Meiteis.
Regretting that in the midst of the ethnic crisis warrant was issued against M Pramotchand by a court in Churachandpur which also instructed the police to present Pramotchand before the court to Churachandpur, which is a Kuki dominated area, the TRUST pointed out that despite many FIRs filed no warrant has been issued against any prominent Kuki personalities or ordered for bringing them to Imphal.
While suggesting that KSO and Kuki withdraw the case registered against M Pramotchand, U-TRUST confided that during the ongoing ethnic clash, many drug users from the Kuki community under rehabilitation process at private drug rehabilitation centres were put in secured places and ultimately made to reach their respective homes safely for which some of the rehabilitation centres were destroyed and owners banned from opening rehabilitation centres.
