Imphal, September 26 2024:
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Manipur Upa Prant has strongly condemned looting of the donation box, acts of sabotage and attempt to set on fire the Shri Shri Pashupatinath Mandir in Senapati district on Wednesday midnight.
In a release, VHP Manipur publicity secretary A Arun Sharma condemned the attempted arson on the temple, likening it to continuation of attacks on temples in the hills and fringe areas since the conflict broke out on May 3, 2023 .
Arun appealed all to refrain from obstructing efforts to restore peace in Manipur and called upon the law enforcing agencies to arrest and punish the culprits suitably.
All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union (AMGSU) also condemned the attempt to torch the Hindu temple in Senapati by unknown miscreants on Wednesday.
In a release, AMGSU president LB Adhikari called Senapati as very peaceful district where people of different communities have been living peacefully as good neighbours.
However, some individuals with vested interests are trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere, he cautioned.
The president also advised the Gorkha community not to spread rumours on social media platforms which can hurt sentiments of other communities.
Law enforcement agencies should book the culprits at the earliest possible as per the law of the largest democratic country, suggested the Gorkha students' body.
