The Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) and the All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) jointly organised a one-day convention on "Child and women in present conflict of Manipur" at Iboyaima Shu-mang Leela Shanglen at Palace Compound, today.
The programme was graced by PLMPAM president L Memchoubi and AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani as presidium members.
At the event, Y Kunjarani said that the convention was held to highlight the horrific crimes committed against women and children amid the violence in Manipur and the uncertainty of their future.

Saying that there may be more women who were raped on the first day (May 3) of the violence alone at Churachandpur but didn't report the same fearing stigma, she asked why the Indian Government is still not showing any sympathy to the Meitei woman who was allegedly gangraped by Kuki miscreants on May 3 at Churachandpur.
She then urged the Government to investigate the gangrape case of the Meitei woman and deliver justice to the victim at the earliest.
Claiming that Manipur has become a victim of geo-politics as Kuki narco- terrorists have started occupying the land of Manipur, Y Kujarani said that war is indispensable to protect the identity and land and resources of the State and so people must be prepared for it.
The AMAWOVA president went on to state that every Manipuri should know the hidden agenda of the Centre and the detrimental effect of Kuki Nationalism on Manipur to safeguard the State.
PLMPAM president L Memchoubi, on the other hand, said that the violence in Manipur was orchestrated by Kuki narco-terrorists and the attack on Meiteis at Churachandpur on May 3 was deliberate.
Claiming that Kukis have burnt down and flattened several houses in the foothill and peripheral areas of the valley and killed many Meiteis since May 3, she said that the aggression of Kukis, however, couldn't dampen the spirit of Meiteis and they (the Meiteis) are still standing on guard to protect the land and resources of Manipur.
Retired Professor of Manipur University N Joykumar spoke on "Status of women during Birtish period in Manipur" while Assistant Professor Dr Noni Arambam of DM University and Assistant Professor of IGNTU Dr Homen Thangjam deliberated on "Manipuri women in the post annexation period" and "Role of Manipuri women following emergence of different political aspiration after 1950s in Manipur" respectively during the morning session which was moderated by Dr Dhanabir Laishram.
In the evening session, several resource persons spoke on "Women's response to the present crisis", "Violation of women and child's right in the present crisis in Manipur" and "Women and political economic space in the post crisis period of Manipur", among others.
