Imphal, June 22 2026:
Demanding fulfilment of all their demands and entitlements, employees of the State Government took mass casual leave and staged protests at different places today.
The protest and the mass casual leave was earlier announced by the Manipur Secretariat Services Association, Manipur Government Services Federation and the Manipur State Pensioners' Union.
The key demands of the three organisations are enhancing the retirement age to 62, granting DA/DR to State Government employees at par with Central Government employees, constitution of a State Pay Commission to implement the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission comprehensively, revival of OPS by scrapping NPS/UPS, declaration of Saturdays as holiday, abolition of the practice of re-engaging retired officers and regularisation of casual, contract and muster roll workers by freezing appointment on contract basis.
State Government employees staged a sit-in-protest at Singjamei Chingamakhong waiting shed today.
Speaking to media persons there, Manipur Government Services Federation president L Sarat decried that the authorities have been refusing to even meet them, leave aside addressing their demands and grievances.
Even though a number of memoranda have been submitted to the Government since a long time back to address the employees' demands, no concrete action has been initiated till date, Sarat said.
He said that the State Government is least bothered about the grievances of its own employees and appealed to employees of departments and pensions to support the ongoing agitation.
Mass casual leave will continue on Tuesday too.
On the other hand, the normal functioning of many Government offices including the Manipur Secretariat was severely affected by the employees' agitation today.
On account of the agitation, attendance at Government offices including the Secretariat was quite low.
Except for some officers and contract staff, no other employees attended their offices.
An ultimatum submitted to the Government a few days back said that the employees may be compelled to launch noncooperation movement and even indefinite ceasework strike if their demands and grievances are not addressed at the earliest.
