Imphal, July 03 2015 : Whereas a suspected NSCN-K cadre was killed in an encounter with security forces at Mukti Khullen, Tamenglong district under Nungba police station this morning, troops of 7 Assam Rifles recovered some components of an IED from near a market shed of Torbung along Imphal-Churachandpur road this afternoon.

PIB (Defence Wing) confirmed that the slain cadre was a member of the NSCN (K).

Troops of Red Shield Division eliminated him, PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement.

Elaborating, the statement said that a search operation was launched on the basis of confirmed intelligence inputs by troops of Red Shield Division & 21 PARA (SF) today morning at Mukti Khullen under Nungba Police Station of Tamenglong district.

One hard core militant of NSCN (K) was killed in the operation.

The security forces recovered one HKG-3 series rifle of German origin alongwith live ammunition from the militant.

Meanwhile sources informed that an encounter broke out with NSCN-K cadres in the course of a search operation conducted by a combined team of 21 Para and 13 AR at Mukti Khullen.

One UG cadre was killed in the encounter and the combined force recovered a rifle from the slain cadre.

It is suspected that the slain man was one Sath (20) s/o Chinguang of Tongtou village, Tousem sub-division.

On the other hand, troops of 7 AR recovered IED components wrapped in a polythene bag at Torbung, just 60 metres away from Imphal-Churachandpur road near a market shed.

It is reported that a bomb disposal squad of the army have rushed in.

However, no explosive materials were found inside the polythene bag except a battery and a detonator.
