World Plastic Surgery Day observed

Department of Plastic Surgery RIMS and Rotary Club of Imphal jointly ob served World Plastic Surgery Day on the theme of 'Restore Life After Burns' at the Department on Saturday.
The observance was attended by RIMS director Prof Gu-ruaribam Sunilkumar Sharma as chief guest and medical superintendent Prof N San-jib Singh as president while Department of Plastic Surgery former HOD and senior plastic surgeon Prof GN Sharma and Rotary Club of Imphal secretary Pradeep Kumar Jain were guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunilkumar informed that despite being a small state, Manipur has the infrastructure needed for plastic surgery to not only serve the locals but also provide services to patients from neighbouring states.
He then lauded the dedicated service being rendered by doctors and nurses of the Department towards their patients, and also the students of RIMS Medical College, while seeking cooperation from the staff with regard to updating the existing infrastructure.
According to Dr Nepram Sanjit, number of patients seeking treatment in the hospital has been on the rise even amid the unrest situation.
He said that RIMS will continue to extend the best medical care to patients who cannot afford medical care outside the state.
Observing that lack of burn ward for children in hospitals, Dr Sanjit said that even if some hospitals do have a paediatric bum ward, parents/guardians are left unsatisfied with the lack of adequate infrastructure.
Thus, RIMS will try its best to upgrade the existing infrastructure in the interest of the children, he added.
As part of the observance, RIMS director Prof Sunilkumar presented microfiber 5020 Liposuction system, electric dermatome, microsurgery set and craniomaxil-lary sets to the Department, followed by presentation of simple gifts to the beneficiaries availing treatment at the burn ward of the Department.
