Imphal, March 19 2024:
Different organisations condemned placing of a bomb at the Kongba Kshetri Leikai residence of Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS) president Th Manihar by unidentified miscreants on Sunday.
FOCS general secretary Thokchom Punilkumar representing 12 civil bodies namely FOCS, Indigenous People's Organisation Manipur (IPOM), United Mothers' Organisation (UMO), World Meetei Organisation, Manipur Women's Federation (MWF), Manipur Meitei Pangal Organisation (MMWO), Yelhoumee Kanba Lup, Apunba Senmitlon, United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC), Meetei Council Moreh (MCM), Khwairamband Keithel Joint Co-Ordinating Committee (KKJCC) and a students' organisation addressed a press meet at MWF's Kakwa Boroi Makhong office on Tuesday.
Punilkumar pointed out that taking into account of the suffering of the people due to the ethnic conflict raging since its outbreak over 10 months back, FOCS along with like-minded organisations has been working tirelessly for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
Amid such consistent efforts to bring peace, threat and intimidation to its president by placing bomb at his residence is not only condemnable but also cowardly and irrational.
If there is grievance or problem with the organisation, the same could be settled over the table, he suggested.
Further stating that the threat and intimidation is not only to FOCS but an affront to like-minded organisations and the people, Punilkumar demanded clarification for the threat and appealed to the government to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was staged at Kongba Kshetri Leikai denouncing the bomb threat on FOCS president Th Manihar.
During the protest organised by Kongba Kshetri Leikai Torband Nupi Lamjing Lup, the participants displayed placards inscribed 'We condemn bomb threat to the people', 'Such act is a cowardly act', and 'Make room for talks if there is any differences' among others.
