Workshop on Vermicomposting held

TS Paul Manipur Women's College (TSPMWC), Mongsangei, Imphal, yesterday hosted a 1-day workshop on vermicomposting with the aim to shed light on the importance of vermicomposting in fostering sustainability in farming practices The workshop was jointly organised by IQAC, Department of Biotechnology, Botany, Environmental Science, Home Science and Zoology of TSPMWC in collaboration with SAIRAM (South Asian Institute of Rural and Agricultural Management).
According to a release issued by Th Nandita Devi, Principal, TSPMWC, the workshop served as an interactive platform where participants were guided through the process of vermicomposting step by step.
Through hands-on sessions, the participants gained valuable insights into the correct techniques and precautionary measures necessary for successful vermicomposting.
The presence of HS Shekhar Sharma, Director of SAIRAM, further enriched the event, adding valuable expertise and perspective to the discussions.
The workshop also served as a catalyst for knowledge dissemination and capacity building among educators and practitioners in the field of agriculture.
It underscored the urgent need to embrace eco-friendly practices like vermicomposting to mitigate the adverse effects of conventional farming methods on the environment.
It may be mentioned that vermicomposting holds immense potential in addressing environmental concerns and promoting sustainable agriculture.
By recycling organic waste into nutrient-rich compost using earthworms, it not only reduces waste but also enriches soil health, leading, to improved crop yields and reduced dependency on chemical fertilizers.
