Transgender activist denounces attempt to derail protest

Transgender activist Malem Thongam has strongly denounced the State Government's alleged attempts to derail her fast unto death protest through repeated arrests by the Manipur Police under various Acts.
A statement issued by the Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) Manipur president Malem Thongam shared that the Manipur Government continues to maintain silence on her protest which entered its 26th day on March 18 .
As she continues her fast, the activist has stated that she will go on receiving medical treatment till March 22 when her hunger strike will complete one month.
However, if the State Government fails to respond by March 22, then she will forgo all forms of treatment from the next day, added the statement.
It may be noted that Malem Thongam launched her fast unto death protest on February 22 in front of Faculty of Arts, Delhi University demanding restoration of peace in Manipur and the Prime Minister's intervention to end the crisis.
She has since continued her protest in different areas of Delhi and Imphal, Manipur.
On March 17, she staged a protest in front of Nupi Lal Memorial Complex and was picked up by a team of Imphal Police at 2:10 pm and admitted to JNIMS for treatment.
