Govt notifies culling of pigs

Imphal, October 26 2023:
Imphal West additional deputy commissioner Dr N Johnson Meetei has issued notification for culling all the pigs in infected zones of Imphal West district by officials of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department in strict adherence to laid down protocols.
As per the notification issued on Thursday, the epicentre of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Imphal West district has been reported from five farms, namely Tonjam Arunkumar's farm at Lilong Chajing Mamang Leikai; L Vidyasagar Singh's farm at Konthoujam Maning Leikai; Ch Dhruvatara Khaba's farm at Loitang Khunou; Ch Dhruvatara Khaba's farm in Luker; and L Laingam Singh's farm in Sairemkhul.
As the said epicentres are within 10km radius of each other, it is required to be declared as controlled area for ASF with immediate effect to effectively prevent, control and eradicate the disease.
With the above five farms being the epicentres, all areas within 1 km radius from the pig farms have been declared as infected zones, and areas within 10 km radius from the epicentres as surveillance zone.
Thus, in the controlled areas for ASF, movement of pigs (dead or alive) are strictly prohibited.
Movement and sale of pork and feed within the infected zone and materials that could have contacted the infected or animals suspected to be infected are strictly prohibited.
Culling of all pigs in infected zones shall be done by the officials of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department by following proper protocols.
All equipment/tools as well as vehicles used in the farms having pigs, either infected or suspected to be infected, shall be restricted from movement without following proper protocols.
Any person, who contravenes the provisions of the Act or obstructs the competent officer in performing their duties, shall be liable to face punishment under the Act.
