Passenger service providers protest 'demand'

Kakching, January 23 2025:
Operators of passenger carriers including Tata Magic, Auto Rickshaw and other light vehicles staged protest at Kakching Super Market parking urging all concerned not to impose unaffordable monetary demands to passenger service.
The sit-in protest held on Thursday was organised by Kha Maikei Light Vehicle Passenger Service Association, the apex body of passenger carriers covering over 26 routes in Kakching district.
Speaking on the sidelines, Association president Naorem Lukhoi explained that multiple organisations approached executives of passenger service providers as well as the apex body for financial support in connection with the prevent unrest situation.
However, due to the overwhelming number of such organisations and the poor financial condition of the service providers, the associations are unable to entertain the request.
Lukhoi further disclosed that many members of the association are struggling to repay vehicle instalments, while others lack the funds to even repair their vehicles.
Additionally, a significant number of service providers are finding it difficult to make ends meet because of low passenger turnout on certain days, with some even returning home without picking up a single passenger.
Under such a challenging circumstances, passenger service providers are under immense financial strain.
As such, he urged all organisations striving for welfare of the community to stop imposing burdensome financial demands on the associations.
