Inferno razes house in Ringui village

Ukhrul, January 22 2024: An evening inferno suspected to be caused by short circuit completely razed a residential house of four rooms, a kitchen, and a store room at Ringui village under LM block in Ukhrul district on January 21.The destroyed house belonged to one Chinaohei Ngalung.

The value of the properties destroyed by the fire was estimated to be over Rs 50 lakh.

Sources informed that the incident occurred around 6pm when most of the villagers were attending a Sunday evening worship service at the church.

The fire started from the kitchen of Nga-lung's house, which quickly spread to the residential rooms and engulfed the entire house.

The cause of the fire was identified as a short circuit due to the huge fluctuations in the electric current supply.

The sources informed that Ngalung, had constructed his house in 2023.The construction was almost complete, and the house to be inaugurated soon.

Along with the house, all the construction materials, household utensils, machineries, furniture, and fixtures worth over Rs 50 lakh were turned into ashes.

In connection with the incident, an FIR has been registered at the Somdal Police Station, urging the local police to conduct a spot enquiry immediately to determine the cause of the fire and bring justice to the victims.

Meanwhile, Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL) has urged the state government to establish a fire sub-station in the vicinity of the LM-Block as remedial measures at the earliest to ensure the safety and security of the people and their properties in the region.

The LM Block is home to more than 20 major villages and a significant population but it does not have its own fire substation which is a major cause for concern when it comes to fire accidents, said president RM Varemung in a statement.

He also asked the state authorities to investigate the incident and corresponding damages, provide prompt relief, and guaranteed just and befitting recompense.

The ZTKL also expressed its sympathy and solidarity to the victim's family and appealed to the villagers and neighbour -ing community to extend all possible humanitarian assistance to the victim's family.

It said that the fire was contained before it could spread to other houses, thanks to the villagers' and neighbours' quick intervention.

"We are touched by the fact that the victim Ch Ngalung, a dedicated retired teacher, had invested all of his savings and pension funds to build the said home, but everything was destroyed by fire," the statement added.
