AMUCO continues 'Way Forward Campaign'

Imphal, November 12 2023: All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) in coordination with Imphal East District United Clubs' Organisation (IEDUCO) carried out its 'Way Forward Campaign' at Kongba Kshetri Leikai in Imphal East district on Sunday.

The campaign was attended by IEDUCO president T Dijwo, All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation (AKRUCO) advisor Sanahal Kshetri, AKRUCO.president H Chaoba, KHAM-PAL president Romabati, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang, AMOVA advisor Ch Usharani and AMUCO secretary (publicity) Laishram Krishnachandra as presidium members.

Delivering the key note address of the campaign, AMUCO secretary (organisation) Santosh Koijam said the campaign is being launched to create awareness among people about the 8-point memorandum submitted by AMUCO to the Prime Minister of India regarding resolution of the prevailing unrest situation and ensuring a lasting peace in Manipur with a comprehensive peace process.

Elaborating on the memorandum, Santosh said that the prevailing armed conflict must be stopped immediately and Kuki-Zo militants under Suspension of Operation confined to their designated camps with strict adherence to SoO ground rules.

He also said that all the people displaced by the violence must be extended necessary help and rehabilitated properly.

According to Santosh Koijam, AMUCO's memorandum to the PM also demanded recognition of the unique history of Manipur, amendment in Article 3 of Indian Contitution as adopted by people's convention of August 18, 1997 and subsequently passed by the state assembly, inimediate implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, ending formation of ethnic centric political units by constituting district reorganisation committee, creation of special administrative zones for strategically important areas like Moreh and Behiang, protection and conservation of reserved forests and eradication of narco-trade and poppy cultivation.

He also said that there can be no separate administration based on ethnic line in Manipur and no demand for separate land by breaking Manipur should be endorsed.

Santosh Koijam further said that minority communities like Chiru, Kom, Aimol, Koireng, Rongmei and Meetei settling in different pockets of Churachandpur district are facing immense difficulties and accordingly areas they settled like Kangvai, Tuibong, Khuga Tampak and Saikot sub-division should be brought under Bishnupur district.
