Kangpokpi, November 12 2023:
Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing has begun providing winter necessities to IDPs sheltering in relief camps in her assembly constituency in order to shield them from the harsh weather as the winter months set in.
Kimneo is the first woman elected MLA from the Saikul assembly constituency in Kangpokpi district, and the youngest legislator among the 60 MLAs in Manipur.
The local MLA visited a relief camp set up at Litan Sareikhong, where more than 500 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are currently taking shelter.
The MLA offered winter necessities such as blankets, mattresses, and baby cafe, among other things, while also meeting a newborn baby at the relief camp.
Kimneo said that as the winter weather arrived early this year, IDPs at relief camps were struggling to stay warm.
"To protect them and keep them safe from the harsh weather, vital requirements for the winter season are being provided," she added.
She commended the IDPs for their resilience and strength during difficult times, adding that the situation at the relief camps is being constantly monitored.
The MLA interacted with the internally displaced children, inquiring about their education and well-being, as well as taking stock of their condition.
Earlier, she had visited numerous other relief camps and reached out to displaced persons in need.
