CoTU to decide next course of action today

Kangpokpi, November 12 2023:
The 48-hour total shutdown imposed by Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi continued to affect normal life in Kangpokpi district on the second day as shops and business establishments remained closed and no vehicular movement allowed along the National Highway-2.People came out in large numbers at different places along the National Highway- 2 and staged protest demonstrations against alleged selective enforcement of law and order.
Kuki-Zo people were seen blocking the highway at Kangpokpi town and Gamgiphai area on the second day but there is no report of any untoward incident till the time of filing this report.
The shutdown will end at 6am on November 13 .
Meanwhile, CoTU general secretary Lamminlun Singsit told media persons that the committee will immediately consider another course of action in consultation with the public after end of the total shutdown if the government does not pay heed to the legitimate demands of the Kuki-Zo community.
He then appealed to the general public to remain alert and continue to support the fight for justice.
The shutdown is being enforced to protest arrest of two persons in connection with the missing case of two teenage students and demand their unconditional release.
The two namely Lhunkhosei Chongloi (30), and Satgohgin Hangsinh (28), both of Kangpokpi district were arrested by the police, two days after two students, Avinash Maibam (16), and Ningthoujam Anthony (19) from Lamsang in Imphal West district had gone missing after they rode on a bike to the red zone on November 5, 2023 .
The arrested persons were remanded into judicial custody till November 17 .
