Imphal, November 12 2023:
Along with organising awareness programme on Rabi crops; COCOMI Farmers' Wing, which is a conglomerate of five bodies namely AMPFA, KaPFA, LALLUP, LOUSAL and LOYALUP, distributed Rabi crop seeds to farmers in different parts of the state on Sunday.
The Rabi crop seeds distribution was jointly sponsored by District Horticulture and Soil Conservation, MOMA and NIDH.
Speaking at the distribution function held at Yairipok Kekru in Thoubal district, COCOMI Farmer's Wing co-convenor Shyam Khuman expressed strong resentment that the ethnic violence has badly affected the economy of the state as the armed Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists continue to attack the Meiteis.
In addition, the blockade on the national highways in the state has led to hike in prices of essential commodities, thus impacting the commoners.
He called upon the food producers to adopt organic methods of farming so as to prevent consumption of food grown with the help of toxic chemical fertilizers.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation mission director Zakir Hussain, who was also present on the occasion, said that the state and the central governments have been taking up welfare activities for the farmers and as part of these welfare activities, farming related equipment and seasonal crop seeds are being distributed to the farmers.
However, since many of the farmers are unaware of these benefits, they are deprived of the same.
Therefore, there is the need to make the farming community aware of such benefits, he emphasised.
COCOMI Farmer's Wing in collaboration with District Officer Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department also organised an awareness programme cum distribution of Rabi crop seeds at Sabungkhok Mamang Leikai community hall in Imphal East district.
The function was attended byHorticulture Department, Imphal East District Officer Zeite Koireng and COCOMI Farmer Wing co-convenor L Jayenta.
