Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister N Biren Singh have conveyed their greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Diwali.
The Governor, in her greetings, said that Diwali is one of the biggest festivals of the Hindus and celebrated across the length and breadth of the country.
Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, signifies the triumph of good over evil, she said and added that the illumination on this day marks the joy and happiness on the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana.
She prayed for the light of Diwali to dispel hatred and disunity among the people of Manipur.
"I join the people of Manipur in the celebration of Diwali and pray that this festival brings peace and prosperity to the State," she concluded.
The Chief Minister, on the other hand, prayed for the festival of lights to dispel the dark days of violence the State has seen these past six months.
Wishing the people on the occasion, N Biren said that the season of joy, festivities, bright lights, sparkles and sweets is here, but hundreds of families will not see the light of Diwali this year.
Appealing to the people to keep the victims of the violence in their thoughts and prayers, the Chief Minister said, "Let the spirit of Diwali remind us that good always triumphs over evil" .
