Thanks to negligence by the departments concerned, condition of roads and drainage system in Imphal city has become deplorable today and cause of serious concerns to the commuters.
The roadways in Paona and Thangal bazar, which serve as the main entry points to Khwairamband market (Three Ima markets) are in their worst possible condition with potholes everywhere and drains overflowing.
In Paona bazar, vehicles operators are at their wits end trying to negotiate the potholes.
The roads also get frequently inundated with water overflowing from the drains on both sides of the road.
On most days, the large potholes are filled with water from the drains and resemble ponds in the middle of the road.
People are reluctant to walk on the footpaths fearing of slipping into the drain.
The protruding covers of the man holes of the sewerage project add to the misery of the commuters.
Entry and exit of vehicles and people along Thangal bazar road have also been prohibited as the road is under repairing.
In the name of repairing, the road has been blocked by putting up bamboo fencing from PC Jain point stretching to around 300 metres for the last one month.
The Nagamapal stretch and the Kwakeithel traffic point area are also in deplorable condition for quite some time now.
In addition to the terrible condition, the roads have been dug up at certain points to make way for water pipelines.
Leakages in the water pipes along the road stretch have also created flood-like situation.
In Sagolband Tera area near the water reservoir, the roads waterlogged with water leaking from the water pipeline.
Similar condition is also seen along the road stretches in Sagolband, Uripok and Naoremthong area.
The PHE department has been turning a blind eye to the problems being faced by the people in these areas and letting the defective pipelines to leak water whenever the department releases water.
