Imphal, February 12 2024:
The inauguration function of the new building of Yumnam Khunou High School constructed under Samagra Shiksha, 2022-23 was organised by Department of Education (S), on Monday.
The inaugural function of the school upgraded from junior primary school was attended by Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha and education (S) director L Nandakumar, who is also the Samagra Shiksha Manipur state project director as chief guest and president respectively while Samagra Shiksha (secondary), Manipur additional project director Khumukcham Renuka and ICHAM former president Nongthombam Rajendro (Boy) were guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, N Rajendro recounted that old building of the Yumnam Khunou Junior Primary School developed cracks in the 2014 earthquake consequently depriving students of normal classes.
However, in 2016, chief minster N Biren initiated re construction of the school's building despite non-inclusion of the same in the work programme.
Gradually, the school witnessed enrolment of around 130 students and subsequently upgraded to high school.
While pointing out the need to reduce the number of festivals celebrated in the state, he said that it is time we change the traditional and customary related festivities.
Rajendro reminded that apart from around 60,000 Kukis found settling in Imphal valley, the Meetei villages are surrounded by Kukis.
As such, rather than spending time and money on revelry and celebrating festivals one after the other, it is advisable that the youth focus on education, he added.
