Socio-cultural organisation Meitei Leepun has imposed ban on activists Thounaojam Brinda and Babloo Loitongbam from speaking at public platform.
Announcing the ban in a press conference at Manipur Press Club on Thursday.
Meitei Leepun's 'Langjang Hanba' Heisnam Silari said both Brinda and Babloo accused Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun of instigating the violence which broke out on May 3 .
However, their claims were both baseless and unfortunate that the public figures made such irresponsible remark amid the on-going violence in the state.
The ban against the duo will come into effect from Thursday and remain effective till the violence ends, he said and cautioned that both Thounaojam Brinda and Babloo Loitongbam must face their own consequences if found speaking at public platform.
According to Heisnam Silan, there were some unwanted incidents before the violence erupted on May 3, 2023 .
On April 27, 2023 the Open Gym at Churachandpur to be inaugurated by chief minister the next day was destroyed and on April 29 Kukis destroyed sacred temple inside the house of one Wahengbam Oken of Thingkanphai, Churachandpur.
Amidst the Tribal Solidarity March on May 3, forest offices were torched while a Meetei dumper driver was beaten up during the rally.
During the rally in Churachandpur, a Meetei named Ningthoujam Rohan Singh was thrashed and series of such incidents followed thereafter.
Before the violence erupted, many Kuki officers of government offices were found taking leave, Heisnam Silan said adding that Kukis started the violence primarily after government initiated steps for NRC, eviction of forest encroachers and stopped poppy plantation.
Meanwhile, a group of people vandalised the house of Babloo Loitongbam at Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai on Thursday around 7 pm.
Sources said that the unidentified persons broke windows of the house and some chairs, and left.
Police arrived shortly and took stock of the situation.
Investigation is underway, the sources added.
