Governor holds high-level meetings, addresses concerns

Imphal, August 17 2023: In a series of significant engagements, Governor Anusuiya Uikey presided over discussions addressing vital matters concerning security, healthcare, transportation, and social harmony of the state on Thursday.

IG of CRPF's Manipur & Nagaland Sector Sandeep Datta, accompanied by his wife Rajni Datta, Sector Head of CRPF Wives Welfare Association, visited Raj Bhavan in Imphal to meet the Governor on Thursday.

During the meeting, IG Datta conveyed insights into the security landscape of the state.

He expressed gratitude for the Governor's guidance and presented an overview of CRPF's security measures amidst the ongoing situation.

The Governor lauded CRPF's efforts over the past three months and encouraged continued support towards restoring normalcy and peace.

She also proposed distribution of utility boxes to Internally Displaced People (IDPs) at Biramangol College relief camp in Imphal East district, which IG Datta assured to carry out.

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) director Dr G Sunil Kumar Sharma, along with RIMS MS Dr Sanjeev, met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan.

They discussed RIMS' ongoing developmental projects and highlighted their contributions, including 90 surgeries and over 300 free medical treatments to victims of violence.

The issue of students from hill areas studying at RIMS was also addressed, with a proposal sent to concerned authorities in Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram to accommodate these students in their medical institutes.

The Governor praised the dedication of RIMS' medical professionals and staff in providing aid to those in need.

Kulwant Singh Cheema also held discussions with the Governor, shedding light on challenges faced by transporters in the state.

He expressed his commitment to resolving the issues and supporting crisis resolution.

Furthermore, representatives of COCOMI's Women Wing met with the Governor to seek her intervention in investigating the alleged atrocities committed on Meira Paibis by central security forces on August 3.The group submitted a memorandum urging a thorough investigation into the incident, which resulted in injuries to around 90 women.

They strongly condemned the reported rape of a woman from Khumujamba Meetei Leikai in Churachandpur district and emphasised the need for a swift resolution to the case.

The Governor assured them of her commitment to inquire about the incident, noting ongoing efforts to restore peace and normalcy.
