Imphal, September 02 2015:
Claiming that the three bills passed by the Manipur State Assembly on August 31 will not affect the interests of any community, former president of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), advocate Khaidem Mani has slammed the national media for allegedly attempting to fuel communal tension in Manipur over the Churachandpur violence.
During a press meet held at Cheirap Court on Wednesday, Khaidem Mani also said that killing of innocent civilians during the violent incident in Churachandpur district is unfortunate.
Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill 2015 will protect the indigenous peoples since every non-Manipuri will need a permit before entering the state and MLR&LR Act will regularize the selling or owning of lands in the state.
The passed bills do not affect interest of any particular community in the State, said Khaidem Mani.
Suggestions were welcomed before passing the bills and still if any community thinks that the bills affect its interests, then learned persons, advocates and academicians of that particular community should come forward and discuss together to make sure that the bills do not harm the interest of any community in Manipur, added Mani.
The implementation of inner line permit system in Manipur has been a public demand since a long time and all the communities, both in the hills and valleys, should together render support to it since it is the only way to protect the indigenous peoples, said Mani while adding that corruption free representatives are needed by the people to bring a united Manipur.
Slamming the national media for allegedly inciting communal tension in the State, Khaidem Mani said they are very much interested in the Churanchadpur violence, but they totally neglected the nearly two months long ILPS agitation which even claimed the precious life of a student.
