Tamenglong, September 02 2015:
A public leaders' meet held at the Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) office premises in Tamenglong district headquarters on Wednesday endorsed and extended support to the proposed 'total bandh' called by United Naga Council (UNC) along all National Highways from September 3 midnight till September 5 midnight.
UNC has imposed the 48-hour strike in protest against the Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015, Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015 and Manipur Shops & Establishment (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2015 passed by the State Assembly on August 31 .
The public leaders' meet, organised by ZB, condemned the passage of the controversial bills in the strongest terms and expressed resentment over the alleged underestimation of the indigenous tribal people and infringement upon their rights.
It vowed to stand unitedly against such policies of the Government of Manipur and defend the tribal land, resources, culture and identity.
The meet declared that the State Government passed the bill with a motive to rob and exploit the rights of the indigenous tribal people.
Meanwhile, the meet warmly welcomed the Naga Peace Accord signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) on August 3 .
It further showed deepest appreciation and acknowledgment to the Government of India and NSCN (IM) for signing the framework agreement to bring about an acceptable and honourable settlement to the longstanding Indo-Naga political issue.
