Hunger strikers freed, accorded heroes' welcome

Imphal, September 02 2015: All the hunger strikers who were released from Sajiwa Jail today where they were detained for fasting unto death demanding implementation of ILPS or similar mechanism in Manipur were accorded heroes' wel-come at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Com-pound.

However, some of the hunger strikers collapsed in the course of the reception function organised by JCILPS and they were taken to Advanced Hospital and JNIMS together with fellow hunger strikers whose health conditions were too weak.

After treatment at Advanced Hospital, some of the hunger strikers were sent back home in the company of their families.

However, some are still undergoing treatment at the hospital free of cost.

In the course of their journey from Sajiwa Jail to Ibo- yaima Shumang Leela Shang-len, a large crowd who accompanied the hunger strikers shouted slogans demanding enforcement of ILPS or similar legislation and protection of indigenous people of Manipur.

The hunger strikers released today were pulled up from different places for fasting unto death in pursuit of the popular demand for enforcement of ILPS or similar legislation in the State.
