Aizawl, September 02 2015:
Mizoram's main opposition party, the Mizo National Front, has condemned the Congress-led Government in neighbouring Manipur over Monday night's tragedies in Churachandpur town and expressed "grief" that several members of ethnic Zo communities were killed by police commandos.
"The MNF is aggrieved that the protests of tribal student groups went unheeded and that the Congress government passed laws that would be detrimental to the tribal community," the party said in a statement.
"This led to the arson and burning of legislators' houses and subsequent killing of four people by police commandos.
Congress MLAs sat in the assembly despite the protests, and the government did not put in place proper security measures although it was clear there might be trouble," the MNF said, adding a list of burnt houses and the legislators who owned them.
The party has demanded the Centre and the State governments to investigate the deaths.
